How We Met:
I had just graduated college, so while looking for my first big girl job I took a position at our local gym as the receptionist to stay busy and make money. The day I went to turn in the application Sergio was sitting at the restaurant inside and I was starstruck! Tall, dark, handsome: check check check. It wasn’t until I started working there that I realized he did too. It took me even longer to realize he was only 19, and even though I was only 22 I thought I couldn’t possibly wait for him to catch up. Fortunately, I didn’t have a choice in the matter and we clicked effortlessly and our chemistry got us in trouble many times as he stood at the front desk with me for hours. One of the members checking in said we looked cute together and my response was “I know, he won’t ask me out”. Me, no filter, Sergio following my lead not much has changed since but he did ask me out that night walking me to my car. His respect, something that has also never changed.
He was the only gentleman in all of my life to do everything by the book… shaking my dads hand picking me up for our first date before we even had our first kiss. The rest was history and our love for our family and time together became moral grounds we couldn’t ignore and wanted to grow. We continued dating as the ying and yang we are, got our two pups at the same time and grew up together in more ways than one, none of which was easy or comfortable during our young 20s. With true love and friendship in our pockets and the family we always dreamed of as our end goal we made anything and everything work. He proposed at my favorite place in the world, the street behind my beach house that holds many memories in my heart.
Highlights of our wedding day:
Sergio will say the first look because he had no idea what to expect and I think he knows he has to LOL, but we both agree that originally being nervous and then seeing all 200 people who we love and adore made us want the party to start right away!
It was overwhelming to see that many people in one spot celebrating us becoming the little family we already were. Being the goofballs we are, we didn’t practice our first dance, we forgot to even feed eachother the cake, we cut it and walked away, but it was us and it was perfect. I kept waiting for something bad to happen all day, but even my dress breaking in the last hour of the night didn’t cross my mind as something that would go on that list.
Nothing mattered but the smiles on our and our guests faces. His proud Italian side, my proud Irish side coming together. We made eye contact throughout the night that just spoke volumes of the atmosphere around us, that no words could do.
Dancing with my dad and getting ready with my mamma will be special moments I’ll look back on for the rest of my life as moments that stood still. Sergio and I both know how truly blessed we are in the life we already have and will continue to grow.
