Kathleen and Matt met in the summer of 2009 at a local dive bar in the Southside of Pittsburgh, (Nadine’s). Kathleen was fresh out of college and Matt was an established football coach at a small college in Washington, PA. She knew right away that Matt would change her life forever. His love and passion for teaching and coaching made her fully aware that the sky was the limit for him. The pair started dating and it was two years later that Matt received his first Division 1 coaching job at the University of Pittsburgh. Shortly after his stint there, he was asked to coach at the University of Arizona. When Matt said “Tucson”, Kathleen wasn’t sure what this would mean for their relationship.
They spent 5 months apart as he moved out West and she stayed behind. She knew that as her love would continue to grow for Matt, a passionate college football coach, so would her list of home addresses and her job resume. Coaching football meant a lot of bouncing around the country for them, but it didn’t stop her from loving the man of her dreams. She was determined to support him and his goals and approached the unknown with an open mind.
They spent four amazing years in Arizona and loved every second of it! Kathleen was able to establish her career as a travel industry sales manager and developed a true passion for health, wellness and fitness. They experienced so much as a couple while in AZ and were confident they could handle anything thrown at them.
That’s when the call came in January of 2016. (At this time, Kathleen was recently promoted at her job and the two were planning a cross country wedding) Matt was offered a new coaching job at West Virginia University. They had very little time to decide and both agreed they couldn’t pass up the opportunity. How will they manage? So much going on at once and all they wanted was to be happily married. Matt had to report to West Virginia within 72 hours after accepting his new position. Kat stayed behind and focused on her career. 6 more months apart. They prayed about it… And prayed some more.
They now reside in beautiful Cheat Lake, West Virginia and are about to tackle their first season as Mountaineers and as “The Caponi’s”. Matt and Kathleen feel very fortunate to be able to celebrate love, life and happiness with their favorite teammates; each other.
